Pillsbury's Crescent Roll Taco Bake Recipe: Reviews
This is something I've been making for years, with a few changes:
1.Use a cookie sheet instead of a baking dish. Just pinch the seams of the crescent rolls together or use the “sheet” rolls, and then roll out or flatten the dough on a baking sheet. I use a 12×16-inch baking sheet.
- Add a cup or two of crushed corn chips to the crust before adding the meat mixture to make it less “soggy.”
- Put a few dollops of sour cream on top of the meat. This will help the mixture stay together.
The next step is to add more crushed corn chips, which gives the recipe a little crunch. - The grated cheddar cheese, which is last but not least. Sharp cheddar cheese is our favorite.
- Put this in the oven for about 20 to 25 minutes.
The end result is a wonderful topping on a nice, crisp crust. Very similar to pizza.
Our family is eating this more and more often. It's loved by everyone. Thanks for your ideas, especially the one about the beans. We might give it a try.
I'm going to make this with pork roast, refried beans, and green chiles that I already have in the fridge. I made something similar, but I used flour tortillas instead of crescents. Put it on the bottom of the plate, then added the bean and meat mixture, cheese, and another layer of tortilla, meat, and cheese. This also sounds good, and I already have the money for it.
Easy to make and tastes good. I'll make it again and try to make it healthier by using reduced-fat crescents and cheese, as well as Reltetsoh's suggestion to replace half the meat with beans and maybe corn.
I used a can of small diced tomatoes instead of salsa. The meat was really good after I added the liquid needed to cook the taco seasoning. I wish I had read the twists in the recipe before baking. I would have tried putting the tortilla on top and then the cheese on top of that.
I followed this recipe to make dinner, and it was delicious. Lettuce and tomatoes don't go with hot food, so I left them off. The taste was great, and the husband liked it a lot. I topped them with sour cream and guacamole. Will add it to my list of things to make again. This recipe is great! My tweaks: I add a can of washed black beans (or sometimes rinsed corn). We don't like salsa, so I use a can of diced tomatoes that has been very well drained. Add about a quarter cup of diced onions to the tomatoes with green chiles. I also bake the biscuits for a few minutes before putting the filling on them. This keeps the crust from getting too soggy. I serve it with a salad of tomatoes and avocados and a dollop of sour cream. My family really likes it.
