Butter Swim Biscuits are buttermilk biscuits that are baked with a lot of butter on them. This makes the outside of the biscuit crispy, while the inside is soft and fluffy. If you think these biscuits sound great, which they do, try my Buttermilk Biscuits as well.
Simply Texas Butter Swim Biscuits has this recipe. She says that her grandmother gave it to her. I can't even guess how long it's been around.
It is so easy to make, and you probably already have all the ingredients on hand. The only thing you might need is buttermilk, but it's easy to make buttermilk at home. You can eat these buttery biscuits on their own or with your favorite jam.
Ingredients :
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 stick butter
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 4 tsp sugar
- 2 tsp salt
How to make Butter Swim Biscuits?
- Set the oven temperature to 450 degrees.
- In a medium-sized bowl, mix all of the dry ingredients together.
- Then, add the buttermilk and mix everything together until you have a moist dough.
- Melt the butter in a bowl that can go in the microwave, and then pour it into an 8×8 or 9×9 baking dish. Make sure your pan isn't too small or shallow, or the butter will run out while it's baking.
- Put the dough right on top of the melted butter and use a spatula to spread it out until it reaches the edges of the pan.
- At this point, the unbaked dough should be swimming in butter, so cut it into 9 roughly square pieces.
- For 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
You can eat it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. With any meal, these biscuits are the perfect side. I like to put raspberry jam on them.
