- 2 cups white sugar
- 5 tbsp cocoa powder, unsweetened
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 can (12 fluid ounces) evaporated milk
- 1 teaspoon extract vanilla
- 4 egg yolks
- ¼ cup butter
- 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie shell
- 4 egg whites
- ¼ cup white sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350° F. (175 degrees C).
- In a saucepan, combine 2 cups of sugar, cocoa, and flour. Mix in the evaporated milk and vanilla extract. Stir egg yolks into pan. Add butter ,Heat until the butter is melted, stirring constantly. Pour filling into unbaked pie shell.
- Bake in a preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the pie is just set.
- In a glass, metal, or ceramic mixing bowl, whisk egg whites until foamy. Gradually add the sugar, beating constantly until stiff peaks form. Cover the pie filling completely with meringue.
- Return pie to oven and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until meringue is lightly browned and golden.
