Marinated Thanksgiving Turkey : My family enjoys this turkey for Thanksgiving because it cooks up juicy, flavorful, and golden brown. Infuse the meat with flavor by marinating it, then grill it to impart a tantalizing barbecue flavor. —Ken Churches, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Combine the first seven ingredients; reserve and refrigerate 1 cup of the mixture for basting. Insert one oven roasting bag into the other. Place the turkey in an inner bag and pour the remaining marinade inside. Seal bags while squeezing out as much air as possible; coat turkey. Put in a shallow baking dish. Refrigerate overnight while turning multiple times.
Take the turkey out of the marinade and drain it.
Set up the grill for medium heat that isn't direct. Tuck the turkey's wings under it and put the turkey's breast side down on the grill rack. Cover the grill and cook for 1 hour.
If you are using a charcoal grill, add 10 briquettes to the coals and turn the turkey. Baste with the marinade you saved. Cover and cook for 1-1/2 to 2 hours, adding 10 briquettes to keep the heat up and brushing with marinade every 30 minutes, until a thermometer inserted into the thigh reads 170°. Take the turkey off the grill and cover it with foil. Wait 20 minutes before cutting.
The traditional way to roast a turkey is to follow the steps for marinating it overnight. Turn the oven on to 325°. Put a rack in a large roaster and put the turkey on it. Bake, uncovered, for 3 to 3-1/2 hours, or until a thermometer inserted into a thigh reads 170°. Use the marinade you saved to baste the meat often. When the turkey starts to brown, put a tent of aluminum foil over it. Take the turkey out of the oven and tent it with foil. Wait 20 minutes before cutting. If you want gravy, you can skim off the fat and thicken the pan drippings. Serve with the turkey.
